CAROLINA GOLF ASSOCIATION RELEASES NEW POINTS SYSTEM
11/2/10 - 01:03 PM

AAU National Campionships 8 multiplier

AAU WORLD TOUR is excited to be apart of the new Carolina Golf Association (TYGA) junior ranking release. We would like to thank Jason Cox for all he does for junior golf and keeping a ranking system for our state and surrounding area. We have been an advocate of the reduction in the minimum in both the Boys and Girls to have a ranked tournament. We have always believed that if you tee up in competition and from a good yardage that every tournament should be ranked. We have been apart of junior golf for nineteen years and feel that we have seen some very good tournament not ranked because of size of the field. Now I believe we are close to the number that makes it fare across the board.

What does this mean for me as a junior golfer? It will allow you to play a schedule closer to home and keep the cost of junior golf reasonable for you and your family. It allows you as junior to be able to play more tournaments in a closer vicinity to your home and still reach out and go to those tournaments out of state.

The new ranking system now Ranks tournaments in surrounding states (South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia). So play all those local tournaments at the low cost of Travel then vacation in the adjoining states with the AAU WORLD GOLF TOUR www.aaugolftour.com

This will  affect on January 1, 2011.

Changes to TYGA rankings system for 2011.

  1. Reduce the event minimum amount of boys from 25 to 15 playing the longest set of tees to be used for rankings.

  1. Reduce to event minimum amount of girls from 8 to 6 playing the longest set of tee to be used for rankings.

  1. Any junior event in NC or an adjacent state to NC (VA, GA, SC and TN) will be used for rankings if they meet the requirements as set fourth by TYGA.

  1. 13 and under aged players can not be added to the older aged divisions to reach the minimum amount of players for an event to be used for the rankings.

Re:       Rankings event requirements and recommendations

Thank you for supporting junior golf in the Carolinas.  We are very lucky to have some wonderful junior players and hope you will continue to support junior golf.  Below are some items to help with your rankings event.  In order for the rankings to be consistent, we do have some requirements for your event.  There are also some suggestions for the event.  If you have any questions regarding the list, please call me here at the CGA office at 910-673-1000.  I wish you the best of luck with your event and hope you have a great tournament.

Required items:

  1. For boys’ rankings, event must have 15 boys start an event that are playing from the longest set of tees.
  2. For girls’ rankings, event must have 6 girls start an event that are playing from the longest set of tees.
  3. Tournament must be played under all USGA rules.  Local rules may be used, but can not waive a USGA rule.
  4. Ball must be played as it lies (unless approved by TYGA).
  5. Each player must receive a local rules sheet for the event.
  6. The "double par rule" can not be used.
  7. All results must be submitted via fax (910-673-1001) or email within 2 days of the last round.
  8. The player’s name, home city, state and high school graduation year must be included in the results.
  9. Yardage, course rating and slope rating must be submitted for each division with the results.
  10. A copy of the local rules sheet must be submitted with the results.
  11. 13 and under aged players can not be added to the older aged divisions to reach the minimum amount of players for an event to be used for the rankings.

Recommendations:

     1.  Age division:       Boys 14-18 (may separate into 2 divisions, but all eligible for rankings if playing from the same tees)

                                    Boys 12-13

Girls 14-18 (may separate into 2 divisions, but all eligible for rankings if playing from the same tees)

                                    Girls 12-13

11 and under (boys and girls)

    2.  Yardages:          Boys 14-18       6700-7000 yards

                                    Boys 12-13       5700 yards

                                    Girls 14-18       5600-5900 yards

                                    Girls 12-13       5200 yards

                                    11 and under   2500 yards (9 holes)

  1. Course set up should be challenging, yet fair to the contestants.
  2. Course should be marked before play (hazards, out of bounds, ground under repair, etc.)
  3. A pace of play policy should be announced and then enforced during play.

If you need assistance with any of these areas, please call Jason Cox, Director of Junior Golf, at 910-673-1000.

NORTH STATE JUNIOR ENDS IN SUDDEN DEATH
10/8/10 - 12:58 PM

Alex Happer 2010 North State Junior Champion

With the combination of heavy rains from the tropical storm on Thursday and the sunny, but cool winds on Friday, Saturday’s scores were higher than normal due to wet conditions. Scores ranged from 75 to low 80's for the leaders. The course played long for the field playing from the tips.

In our 10 and under group, Chase Clayton from Locust, NC, had to sleep on the lead with an 86 on Saturday night. In the 12 and under group, Jonathan Brightwell from Charlotte, NC was leading with an 83. In the 14 and under group, Ross Robinson was leading with a 75.  In the 16 and under group, Alex Happer was our leader with a 75.  In the 18 and under group, Jeremy Kilgore of Greensboro, NC and Spencer Peterson of Wilson, NC lead with a pair of 77’s.

Sunday’s round brought more disappointment for the players with more high scores.  Zack Brown of Bermuda Run withdrew from the 10 and under group, leaving Chase Clayton, of Locust, NC a runaway in that division.

Michael McMahon of Raleigh made a early run in the 12 and under group, but was too little too late, as Jonathan Brightwell of Charlotte, NC birdied four holes on the back side to seal the victory. In the 14 and under group, Ben Schlottman of Advance, NC shot a 75 to squeeze by Ross Robinson of Wilmington, NC by two shots and also tied for the lead for the overall Champion.

Alex Happer of Wakefield, NC won the 16 and under by two shots over Mark German of Clayton, NC. Alex also tied for the Overall Championship. In the 18 and under division, Jeremy Kilgore edged out Spencer Peterson and Caled Windsor by two shots to win.

In the Overall points for TYGA and the Overall Championship tie between Ben Schlottman and Alex Happer, the match ended on the first hole with Alex making a par on number one and Ben making a triple.
